Same sex marriage law could bring a boost to tourism in Scotland but new research has found there is “room for improvement” when making gay holidaymakers feel welcome.

Research by tourism body VisitScotland found 84 percent lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people planning to wed in another country would choose Scotland as their top destination.

However two thirds of the 930 respondents to the online survey sent to individuals on the Equality Network’s mailing list, Twitter and Facebook pages said there could be improvements on making people feel welcome while on holiday in Scotland.

The research showed 60 percent of respondents had taken a holiday or short break in Scotland in the last year.
