India: plans to boost faith tourism

In a double boost to tourism, Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in India, plans to open a lion safari and an elephant safari in different parts of the sprawling state.

The lion safari in Etawah is expected to open for wildlife tourism next year, while the elephant safari will take a bit longer, as the spade work is being done.

ETN learned that over 150,000 saplings are being planted in 1,000 acres to make the habitats for the two safaris more conducive for the animals.

The lion safari on the Etawah-Gwalior highway will cost Rs 890 million (US$14,547,473) to complete, while the cost of the elephant complex has yet to be finalized.
