The first Geo Park in Tanzania in sub-sahara Africa will cover 12.000 square kilometers in Northern Tanzania in areas of Ngorongoro Crater and Mt. Ol Donyo Lengai.
Geo Park to open in Tanzania
The Public relations officer Mr. Nixon Nyange, at Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority responsible for the Geo Park, in his statement he was quoted saying NCAA is working to expand the country’s Tourism potential by introducing attractions based on land formations, geology, history and geographical features the single entity of Ngorongoro-Lengai Geopark.
A special meeting of officials about forming this Geopark was held in Arusha over the weekend, involving district commissioners, council chairpersons, executive directors and tourism officers, as well as administrative secretaries from Longido, Monduli, Karatu and Ngorongoro Districts.
Hope fully the new park becomes the first of its kind in Sub Saharan Africa.
