The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Business Forum, a collective of entrepreneurs in healthcare travel, was held in November last year, at the JW Marriott in Kuala Lumpur. MHTC organized the forum to better serve the greater healthcare travel industry, with the main focus on “Partnership with Confidence”.
During the all-day forum, industry buyers and sellers, medical experts, and healthcare travelers came together to exchange ideas and insights, and experience Malaysia healthcare, with the ultimate aim of networking and collaborating.
Over 40 international buyers from 13 countries discussed collaboration initiatives with 28 Malaysian sellers. Many of the participants expressed their satisfaction with the programs and have gained through the pre-scheduled meetings. Some of them responded that MHBF facilitated in gathering more information about Malaysian hospitals, provided a platform to identify potential partnership, and expanded the option for medical travel destination for their clients.
In his opening speech, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid bin Omar confidently stated that, “the Malaysian Government has long recognized the role of medical tourism in developing the nation’s well-being. Malaysia will continue to strengthen its medical standards and quality of healthcare…”
The medical tourism industry in Malaysia has seen an exponential growth within the past few years. In 2013, the revenue increased by 16% to RM690 million ($198 million USD) from RM594 million ($171 million USD) in 2012. For 2014, Malaysia recorded RM520 million ($149 million USD) in the nine-month period between January-September.
