Anew tours and travel bureau, has entered the market with motives to boost Tourism in Uganda.

According to Doreen Birungi, the agency’s managing director, the company has put up an office in China, to lure more Chinese to visit Uganda and they would also come up with measures to boost domestic tourism, as an engine to attract more foreign tourists.

She expressed concern that despite its importance, domestic tourism had remained trivial in Uganda and other East African countries.

She was speaking during the launch of the company at its head offices at Metropole House in Kampala last week.

Serapio Rukundo, the state minister for tourism, who officiated at the launch, urged the private sector to partner with the ministry to promote domestic tourism. Tourism revenues brought in sh1.2b in 2008 to the Government of Uganda.
