uganda celebrates 50th Jubilee Independence


Hundreds of people are streaming to Kololo Independence Ground, to celebrate 50 years of Uganda’s independence.

Various guests including presidents from African countries, dignitaries, ministers, religious leaders, members of Parliament are at the venue.

Local Musicians like Pastor Wilson Bugembe, Tinda Tine are keeping the audience entertained.

Police have deployed heavily to secure the city and its suburbs.

The force, according to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Mr Ibin Ssenkumbi, all the routes to Kololo airstrip are being manned to ensure security.

“We call upon all the people to cooperate with the officers because they will be there to ensure their security,” Mr Ssenkumbi said.

Electric poles on several Kampala streets are draped with the Uganda flag. Major roundabouts in the city are also decorated.

In downtown Kampala, and other suburbs of the city, business people are going about their businesses.
