KENYA TO MARKET ITS WESTERN CIRCUIT

Kenya’s tourism minister Najib Bulala has promised to market the Western tourism circuit starting from the beginning of 2012.he said Kisumu International Airport has been worked on perfectly and its renovation has met the international standards set by the global Aviation Authorities.

With the predicted tourism flow through the facility, Nyanza region’s economy is likely to take in strong growth so domestic tourism marketing has to be emphasized to boost revenue.

Ever since the election of Barack Obama as the US President, the region has become a place for international tourists. Many foreigners have been eager to find out Obama’s cultural roots to collect his rich cross-cultural heritage. Therefore the government has opened a regional hospitality training centre together with new infrastructural developments to holistic development.

The minister said they want to train staff in the hospitality industry so that investors can put up more hotels to attract more visitors.

He said the ministry has an aim of reaching 50% of domestic tourism growth by 2015 because the figure has kept on changing between 35 to 40% because of insecurity, weather and terrorism.

The minister will work together with local tour firms and operators to open up the undeveloped excursion sites with possible historical and cultural heritage features because a country that ignores its domestic tourism sector cannot recognize sustainability in their tourism gains.

The Prime Minister Raila Odinga said the ministry should put in more efforts to promote cultural tourism because sites like Nyamgodho, Ohinga, Kit Mikayi, Kango Ka Jaramogi, Got Ramogi, Thim lich Simbi Nyaima, and the well-known shrines of Kakamega can improve the region’s economy if marketed strongly.
